Registration is open for a series of classes for family and support people for individuals living with serious mental illness.
The free course is being offered by the Keweenaw Area Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
The series of 12 sessions are structured to help caregivers understand and support individuals while maintaining their own well-being.
The course, designed on evidence-based practices by SAMHSA, is taught by a team of trained NAMI family member volunteers who know what it is like to have a loved one struggling with one of these brain disorders–including major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, or post-traumatic stress disorder.
Classes start Wednesday, January 11th in Houghton from 6:00pm-8:30pm.
The classes are for support people only.
Register by calling Bill or Barry Elizabeth Fink at 482-4632.
