Houghton County has a new Undersheriff.
Captain Kevin Coppo has been promoted to the position, which opened last month when Roy Britz left for Michigan Tech.
Sheriff Brian McLean described Coppo as organized, forward-thinking, dedicated and fiscally responsible–all excellent traits, McLean added, for running one of the largest departments in the western U.P. for its day to day functions.
Coppo has served with the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office for over 14 yrs., 10 as a field service deputy/patrol.
He then took a leave of absence for 18 months to serve as an international peace keeper in Iraq.
After returning home and back to the Sheriff’s Office he began his service as Captain/Jail Administrator.
Coppo will begin his duties as Undersheriff immediately.
