Alternative Energy Proposal Seeks $100 Million Award

100-and-changeResidents in the region pay some of the highest electric bills in the country and efforts to find alternative solutions continue.

The Keweenaw Community Foundation successfully completed its application to the MacArthur Foundation for the first ever $100 million “critical problem” grant.

The proposal would enhance local renewable energy generation through wind, solar and biomass for baseload power to bring Houghton and Keweenaw Counties to energy independence.

As part of the 27-part application, a 90 second video pitch was created and is now available on YouTube.
