A University of Michigan led team has completed its dig of a discovered mastodon in Mayville, in Michigan’s Thumb area.
The excavation unearthed 60-70% of the animal, compared to around a 15% success rate with most digs.
U of M Paleontologist Daniel Fisher describes what now needs to be done.
Fisher says this is the most complete ice age mastodon skeleton found in Michigan since the 1940s.
