The Detroit Red Wings celebrated their final home opener at Joe Louis Arena with a 5-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators last evening. After a decade in the NHL, Mike Green scored his first career hat trick – the first by a Detroit defenseman in six years. Darren Helm scored twice, and Petr Mrazek stopped 31 shots. The Wings skate at New York against the Rangers tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Michigan Tech forward Reid Sturos has been named the Offensive Player of the Week by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Saturday against Alabama-Huntsville, Sturos scored the deciding goal in the first three-on-three double-overtime period played under new WCHA rules.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 23 points, as the Detroit Pistons trounced the Milwaukee Bucks 102-78 in preseason play last night. The Pistons close their exhibition schedule tomorrow night at home against the Raptors. Hear selected Pistons regular-season games on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Cleveland starter Trevor Bauer was knocked out of the game in the first inning because of an injury, but the Indians’ bullpen came to the rescue in a 4-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays last night. Cleveland leads Toronto three games to none in the American League Championship Series, and could advance to the World Series with a win this afternoon.

The National League Championship Series between the Cubs and the Dodgers is tied at one win per team, and continues tonight in Los Angeles.
