The Portage Lake District Library and the Copper Country Reading Council invite teens, parents, educators, and library professionals for an interactive discussion at the library about the legal issues raised by the misuse of digital tools.
Aimee M. Bissonette, JD, will present “Maximizing Safety in the Digital Environment” on Monday, October 17, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Her presentation will describe how social networking, smart phones, posting of hurtful or derogatory remarks, invasion of privacy, digital exploitation and sexting, unsafe digital communities and more are at the heart of a multitude of incidents involving digital technology, some of which evolve into lawsuits. Bissonette’s presentation will also include expert recommendations for parents, educators, and library professionals who want to help young adults safely make their way in the digital world.
Bissonette is a lawyer, teacher, and writer. She has written extensively for trade publications and conducts training sessions for corporate, educational, and nonprofit groups (nationally and internationally) on the topics of copyright, rights negotiation and licensing, and the legal issues associated with technology in schools. She has written Web site copy for two Web sites on intellectual property and copyright law, and has written and co-produced a satellite broadcast for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities titled Copyright Considerations for Higher Education. She practices law with Little Buffalo Law & Consulting in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
