Fight Continues Against White-Nose Syndrome

White Nose Syndrome BatA fungus referred to as White-Nose syndrome continues to affect the state’s bat population.

The disease affects hibernating bats causing them to wake up frequently disrupting their ability to store fat and their mental state.

Bat expert and Eastern Michigan University biology professor, Alan Kurta says there are five species of bats that are most vulnerable to the disease and one species could even become extinct.

He says there is no cure but research is being done to combat the disease.
