Sometimes, a simple phone call can make a world of difference.
The Western U.P. Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is looking for volunteers for the new program–Keeping Independent Seniors Safe (KISS).
RSVP Program Specialist Christina Mayworm said, “It’s designed to allow our volunteers who want to be involved but maybe can’t leave their home, they can call one of the participants of the program and just check in on them daily or at a designed time that works best for both the volunteer and the participant.”
The volunteer develops a relationship over time with the senior, so if an issue arises or the phone call goes unanswered, the volunteer can let someone know.
The program is designed for people 60 and over who are either disabled, shut in or otherwise just need a friendly person to call and check up on them.
Volunteers need to be 55 and over and RSVP will provide training.
Mayworm said, “I just want to encourage anybody—if you’ve got anybody you think might need a phone call or you might be interested in making the phone calls, please contact us.”
Please contact Christina Mayworm, RSVP Program Specialist at 482-7382 ext. 151 or by email at cmayworm@wuphd.org to learn more about the KISS Program.
