In high school volleyball last night…
– Calumet blanked Hancock 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, and 25-13). Hailey Wickstrom set a new Copper Kings school record with 23 kills.
– Chassell got past L’Anse 3-2.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University volleyball team lost 3-1 at Wisconsin-Superior last night.
MLB
Matt Boyd struggled, and the Detroit Tigers fell to the Minnesota Twins 8-1 last night. Boyd was charged with seven runs before leaving in the fourth inning.
The Tigers continue that home series against the Minnesota Twins tonight. Anibal Sanchez will start against Tyler Duffey. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Cleveland also lost, so the Tigers remain six games behind the Indians in the American League Central Division. Baltimore won, so Detroit and New York now trail the Orioles and Blue Jays by two games in the race for the second American League wild card playoff berth
The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 last night. Matt Garza gave up a run in the first inning, and four more in the third. He completed five, and took the loss. Keon Broxton, Jonathan Villar and Chris Carter homered for Milwaukee.
The Brewers conclude that set against the Reds in Cincinnati tonight. Junior Guerra will pitch against Tim Adleman.
NFL
The Green Bay Packers have signed tackle David Bakhtiari to a four-year contract extension. Reports say it will put him among the top five highest-paid offensive linemen in the league.
Community
The third annual Light the Night Fun/Run Walk will be held Saturday at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium. The event kicks off at 7:15 pm with a free 1K for children. The 5K Fun Run/Walk follows at 7:45 pm. This year, proceeds will benefit the Childhood Cancer Fund, which helps families within Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Ontonagon counties with a child who has been diagnosed with cancer.
Registration is $25.00 for adults, and $15.00 for students. To register online, click here, or sign up between 5:00 and 7:00 in the hospital courtyard Saturday evening.
