Parade of Nations Week Begins With Authors’ Panel

The Portage Lake District Library will host an Upper Peninsula authors panel as part of Michigan Technological University’s schedule of events for the Parade of Nations.

“Passport to the Ethnic Cultures of the Upper Peninsula” will be presented by the Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association on Monday, September 12, from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Local authors will discuss how they became interested in the ethnic cultures of the Keweenaw that they have written about. Authors Larry Buege (Native American), Deborah Frontiera (Finnish), and Cyndi Perkins (Italian) will also share a few interesting stories they discovered while they were writing. Perkins will also describe the overarching ethnic profile of the Copper Country as shown by its newspapers, churches, social clubs, and music. They will invite questions and comments from the audience and do a “Where are you from?” segment.

This event is free and open to all. For more information, please call the library at 482-4570 or visit www.pldl.org.
