Set in 1930’s New York, the Broadway musical “Guys and Dolls” centers around notorious gamblers and infamous gangsters.
The Calumet Players are set to bring the show to audiences in Calumet, staring tonight.
“Guys and Dolls” Co-Director Erin Kauppila, along with Christopher Schwartz, said, “Guys and Dolls is one of the most loved musicals. It’s very well known and it’s packed with songs that everybody will know, such as ‘Luck Be A Lady’ and ‘Sit Down, You’re Rocking The Boat’, among others.”
The show begins with the shady Nathan Detroit hatching a plan to hold an illegal game.
Mike Meyer, who plays Nathan Detroit, said, “He sets up crap shooting games in New York and evades police by moving them from place to place. He’s been engaged to the same showgirl for 14 years and has so far managed to not have to marry her.”
As the final rehearsals wrap up, the cast is ready to take the stage.
Kate van Susante, who plays Sarah Brown, said, “Actually, they’ve been some of the least stressful rehearsals I’ve had in a long time, which is fabulous, and I think that it’s because we have an amazing cast.”
Soren Schmidt, who plays Sky Masterson, said, “The sets, the costumes really take you back into that ‘30’s-style period. An audience member would really enjoy it from a lot of different perspectives. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll enjoy it!”
The curtain rises this Friday at 7:30pm.
