MLB
The Detroit Tigers gave up three runs in the third inning, and lost to the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 Saturday night. Detroit took an early lead when Ian Kinsler led off the game with a home run, but were frustrated after that. Both J.D. Martinez and Victor Martinez were thrown out of the game for arguing strike calls with home plate umpire Mike Everitt. Everitt also tossed hitting coach Wally Joyner for arguing strike calls, and manager Brad Ausmus for defending Joyner. After the game, Ausmus accused Everitt of “having a bad night.” Detroit starter Michael Fulmer struggled through five innings, and was charged with the loss.

The Tigers host the Angels again this afternoon. Anibal Sanchez will start against Tyler Skaggs. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Cleveland also lost, so the Tigers still trail the Indians by four and a half games in the American League Central Division.

The Milwaukee Brewers couldn’t hold an early lead, and fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-6 Saturday evening. After giving up a run in the top of the first, Milwaukee scored four times in the bottom of the inning. The big blow was a three-run homer by Hernan Perez. Perez hit his second homer of the game in the third inning. The Pirates broke through in the top of the fourth, scoring five times off starter Jimmy Nelson. Milwaukee tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when reliever Tyler Cravy homered – his first major league hit. Pittsburgh broke the game open by scoring three runs on a bases-loaded double by Gregory Polanco off Blaine Boyer in the sixth inning.

The Brewers entertain the Pirates again this afternoon. Chase Anderson will pitch against Ivan Nova.

NFL
The Detroit Lions’ offense continued to struggle Saturday in a 30-9 exhibition loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Quarterback Matthew Stafford played the first half. He completed 14 of 23 passes for just 95 yards, and threw his first interception of the preseason. Detroit’s only scoring came on field goals, including a 60-yarder by Matt Prater in the first half.
