NOAA Research Vessel Being Used By Michigan Tech For Lake Superior Study

NOAA Research Vessel, MTUWhen Michigan Tech needs a bigger boat–they call NOAA.

Great Lakes Research Center Director Guy Meadows says the partnership between NOAA and the university aids in the long-term monitoring of Lake Superior.

The R5501 can venture out into the lake for extended periods of time and Ship Captain Daniel Burlingame says it’s been specially equipped for this type of work.

This is the fourth year of the partnership and the 55-foot vessel will spend about two weeks helping with the research.
