That’s the message the American Heart Association wants to get out after new research shows sitting too much can increase your risk of heart disease.
Even physically active people who spend a lot of their time being sedentary are at risk.
Association researchers aren’t exactly sure how much sitting is bad for your health, but based on other studies, adults in the United States under age 60 sit for about six to eight hours a day doing things like watching TV, working on the computer and reading.
Those 60 years of age and over sit for about eight to ten hours a day.
