MLB
Michael Fulmer pitched his first complete-game shutout yesterday, as the Detroit Tigers blanked the Texas Rangers 7-0. Fulmer gave up four hits and struck out nine. He lowered his season earned run average to 2.25 – the lowest of any starter in the American League. The Tigers’ big bats backed him up – Victor Martinez, Ian Kinsler, J.D. Martinez and Miguel Cabrera each hit home runs.
The Tigers return home to open a set against the Kansas City Royals tonight. Daniel Norris will start against Ian Kennedy. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Cleveland also won yesterday, so the Indians continue to lead the Tigers by five games in the American League Central Division.
The Milwaukee Brewers scored six runs in the first two innings, and held on to defeat the Cincinnati Reds 7-3 yesterday. Ryan Braun hit two homers and drove in six runs. Wily Peralta gave up a run over six innings to get the win.
The Brewers have today off, and play a day-night doubleheader at Chicago against the Cubs tomorrow. The early game makes up an April 27th rainout. Matt Garza will pitch against Trevor Cahill. In the late game, Chase Anderson will start against Jason Hammel.
Twilight League
The Twilight Baseball League Championship Series will be decided tonight. Last evening, Superior National Bank-Stanton edged Wolverine-Orbit 1-0 to even the best-of-three series at one win per team. Tyler LaDuron went the distance to earn the win for Stanton. He struck out 10, and gave up just five hits. He also scored the game’s only run, singling in the first inning, and then coming home on a long single by Eric Nettell. That run came off Luke Paul, who gave way to Chris Saari in the second inning. Saari allowed just one hit over the rest of the game, and struck out six.
The final game of the series will be played tonight at 6:15 at the Wolverine field. Our broadcast coverage will begin around 6:00 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
