Copper Country Ancient Sites Conservancy will be hosting the 2nd annual Copper and Culture Conference on Prehistoric Metal Working in the Lake Superior Region later this month.
The group’s mission is to facilitate the identification, protection and professional investigation of the ancient archaeological sites of Lake Superior’s Copper Country, while also promoting the education of the general public concerning ancient archaeology.
The event will be held August 20th and 21st at the Houghton High School auditorium.
Speakers include Michigan Tech’s Professor Emeritus of Geology Dr. Bill Rose, who will give a presentation on Copper Mineralization of the Lake Superior region and its geological background.
Expert Copper Artifact Typologist Don Spohn will present Prehistoric Copper Mining Tools.
In all, there are over a dozen speakers confirmed for the conference.
They will be holding a silent auction and would welcome any donations of books, artifacts or items of interest to the talk.
