Five Candidates Compete In Congressional Primary

Many big decisions will be made today as voters head to the polls in Michigan’s primary election.

The race for Michigan’s 1st Congressional District is considered to be among the most hotly contested in the country.

On the Republican side, State Senator Tom Casperson, former State Senator Jason Allen and Retired Lt. General Jack Bergman.

Squaring off among the Democrats are former Michigan Democrat Party Chair Lon Johnson and former Kalkaska County Sheriff Jerry Cannon.

Casperson made one final push Monday for votes in the Upper Peninsula.

Allen says he’s the only Conservative in the race and points to his plans to address things like overhauling the tax code.

On the other side of the proverbial isle, Johnson says this is a very important election season.

Cannon agrees with that and says he is the best choice for the job.

Voters will decide today.  The primary winners will face off in November.
