Tougher Penalties Against Assaulting People With Special Needs Introduced

A pair of bills that have been introduced in Lansing are meant to crack-down on those who knowingly assault a person with special needs.

State Senator John Proos of St. Joseph is a co-sponsor.

Under the bills, a first offense would be a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, a fine of up to $1,000, or both.

Subsequent offenses would result in felony charges.
