Houghton Sells Out Of Recyclable Containers, Orders More

Curbside recycling begins next week in Houghton and all indications are that there will be a lot of participation.

Houghton City Manager Eric Waara said the demand for recyclable containers has been so great, they city has already sold every one of the 250 containers they had available and now have a waiting list with another 175 people wanting one.

The City Council approved the purchase of another 250 containers at a cost to the city of $9,200, which they then sell at the city center for $10 each.

The containers are not required to participate in recycling.  Items will be picked up in plastic bags or any container as long as it is clear to Waste Management that they are meant for recycling and not for trash.
