The Michigan State Police says ten people from the Upper Peninsula will graduate this morning at the Negaunee Post from its inaugural Citizens’ Academy.
In a new initiative this year, each of state’s 30 police posts will host a Citizens’ Academy to give residents a first-hand look at a trooper’s duties and the opportunity to meet the people who put on the uniform every day.
During the eight-week course, topics of instruction included an orientation to the state police, patrol and dispatch procedures, introduction to first aid, understanding use of force, personal safety, traffic safety, the legal system, criminal investigations, and drug awareness.
