The Tigers open a home set against Kansas City. Justin Verlander will face Ian Kennedy. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Brewers begin a series in Cincinnati. Matt Garza will pitch against Anthony DeSclafani.

– Pat’s Foods-Mosquito Inn came from five runs down to defeat the Copper Country Miners 12-10. Robert Brooks was the winning pitcher. He also doubled twice, walked twice, and scored three runs.
– Dean Kangas-State Farm shut down Superior National Bank-Stanton 7-3.

Copper Country Women’s Slow Pitch
The Copper Country Women’s Slow Pitch Softball League All Star game will be played tonight. Members of Team One include Sarah Audette, Jana Hendrickson, Megan Gast, Heather Mensch, Andra Campbell, Kim Aho, Britney Pennala, Katrina Sheffer, Alexa Clouthier, and Katie Mattila. Members of Team Two include Erin Gast, Melissa Baker, Selena Stromer, Megan Yeo, Molly Berg, Ciara Larson, Julia Daavettila, Jessica Schlaff, Alex Jahfetson, and Taylor Shepard. The game starts at 7:00 at the Chassell field. The public is welcome.

The Detroit Red Wings and forward Luke Glendening have signed a four year contract extension. Including the year he has left on his current contract, the deal will keep Glendening in Detroit through the 2020-2021 season. The agreement is said to be worth 7.2-million dollars.

The Wings also signed 2016 draft pick Filip Hronek to an entry-level contract. The 18-year-old Czech will begin next season with the Saginaw Spirit.

Canal Run LogoCanal Run
The Hancock Canal Run will be held tomorrow. The event includes a half-marathon, and five and 10-mile walks and runs. Shuttle service to the starting points will begin at 6:00 am at the Church of the Resurrection. Last-minute registration, and packet and bib pick-up, will be open this afternoon from 3:00 until 8:00 at Finlandia Hall on Finlandia University’s campus. There is a pre-race pasta dinner this afternoon from 4:30 to 7:30 at Finlandia Hall.
