Mini Facade Grants Helping Houghton Businesses

Several sprucing up projects will now be able to proceed with a little help from Houghton’s DDA Mini Façade Grants.

A list of projects totaling $24,000 in grants were approved by the City Council at their regular meeting Wednesday.

$4,000 each is being granted to Citrus Salon on Huron Street for signage, paint and an awning; and to The Market Place on Shelden Avenue for replacing windows.

The grants only cover a portion of the overall cost of the project with the business owner providing the balance.

Other businesses receiving smaller grants include Travel Leaders, the Downtowner, Black Ice Comics, Urban Rustics, Swift Hardware, Industrial Graphics and Bill’s B&B Bar.

The funds come from $15,000 in the current budget as well as $9,000 that remained from last year’s budget.
