Erickson Crowley Peterson Wins Two – Thursday Sports Wrap

MLB: Tigers Drop Third Straight
Detroit Tigers Circle LogoThe Tigers lost their third game in a row yesterday… 2-1 to the Royals. Detroit starter Drew Smyly pitched well… giving up two runs over seven innings. Tigers’ batters could manage only five hits against K-C starter Jeremy Guthrie and three relievers. The loss dropped Detroit a game-and-a-half behind Kansas City… in second place in the American League Central. They’re just two games ahead of third-place Cleveland.

The Tigers host the Royals one more time this afternoon. It’s a make-up game for a rainout back on April 3rd. Anibal Sanchez will face Danny Duffy. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400, WCCY.

Brewers Fall in Ninth
Milwaukee Brewers Circle LogoTony Campana’s ground ball single in the bottom of the ninth drove in the winning run, as the Diamondbacks edged the Brewers 4-3 last night. Matt Garza pitched into the eighth inning, and gave up three runs. Two came in the first inning… and were helped in by some sloppy Milwaukee defensive play.

The Brewers wrap up that set against the Diamondbacks this afternoon. Yovani Gallardo will start against Chase Anderson.

In Copper Country Slow Pitch Softball play last night…
– At Hurontown, Nutini’s edged Bucko’s/Labatts 21-19. Joel Vertin homered in the losing effort. Bucko’s/Labatts then bounced back to beat 906/Pilgrim River Steakhouse 21-4. Matt Hampton homered. Steve Dunstan allowed four runs in the first… but pitched shutout ball the rest of the way to earn the win.
– At the Hancock Driving Park, Erickson Crowley Peterson scored six runs in the top of the ninth… then survived a four-run rally by The Goal Post to claim a 13-12 victory. Tim Loftquist had four hits, including three triples. Erickson Crowley Peterson then erupted for 15 runs in the first inning, and cruised to a 26-3 triumph over North Pointe Trucking. Erik Nettle had four hits… and gave up just five hits to earn the win.
– The score of the game between Coca Cola/Miller’s Recreation and The Marley Bar was not reported.

– At the Toivola field, Pat’s Foods meets Mosquito Inn.

The Red Wings have placed Jordin Tootoo on waivers. The veteran forward had one year remaining on a three-year deal… but had spent much of last season playing in Grand Rapids. With a number of younger players competing for roster space, club officials said they were releasing Tootoo so he could try to gain some playing time with another team.

Copper Harbor LogoLongest Day Tourney Saturday
The Longest Day Fishing Tournament will be held Saturday in and around Copper Harbor. Fishing can take place on Lac La Belle or Lake Medora… or on Copper Harbor, or Eagle Harbor within five miles of shore. The pre-tournament meeting will be held tomorrow night at the Copper Harbor Community Building.
