Veterans Park In Houghton Vandalized

Veterans ParkPolice are looking for those responsible for vandalizing Veterans Park in Houghton over the Fourth of July weekend.

The Houghton Police Department says the incident occurred sometime after the bars closed on Friday morning.

A Purple Heart monument was toppled over and a plaque dedicated to those Killed In Action during World War II was nearly torn off

Lieutenant Nick Roberts of the Houghton Police Department said they hope the people who did this will turn themselves in.

Police also believe the same suspects were involved in destroying stop signs located at 4th and Houghton, 5th and Houghton, and 5th and South Streets.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Houghton Police Department at 906-487-5912.

The city will have to bear the cost of repairing the memorial.

Representatives from Purple Heart and Veterans of Foreign Wars, along with the City of Houghton, will gather this morning at 8am to reposition the monuments in place.

Veterans and the public are invited to attend.
