It will cost more for students heading to the University of Michigan.
The board of regents approving a tuition increase for the school year beginning next fall.
A 3.9-percent increase for in-state students and a 4.4-percents for non-residents was approved Thursday 5-to-3 by the board.
Among the ‘NO’ votes was Regent Andrea Fischer Newman.
The increase averages to an additional $546 a year out-of-pocket for in-state students, and nearly $2,000 out-of-pocket for those out of state.
Several regents on both sides of the increase were critical of what they feel is a lack of higher-education support from lawmakers in Lansing.
