Thousands Of Michigan Children Have Elevated Blood Lead Levels

The Michigan Health Department is reporting almost 5,000 children with elevated blood lead levels in the state.

The statewide data will be used to help identify cities with a higher percent of children affected by lead.

Many times lead exposure to kids come from lead-based paint and lead-contaminated dust in deteriorating buildings.

The new Child Lead Poisoning Elimination Board and Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley will be working to develop a long-term statewide plan to prevent some children from being exposed to lead.
