UPPCO Reminder: Call Miss Dig Before Starting Projects

Marquette Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) is urging homeowners, excavators and contractors to keep safety at the forefront by making a free call to Michigan’s Miss Dig system at 8-1-1 or 800-482-7171at least three working days before engaging in any digging activities.

Contacting Miss Dig by phone or via the web at www.missdig.org sets in motion a process in which appropriate utility companies are notified of an upcoming project that will involve digging. Professional locators are then sent to the requested digging site to mark the approximate locations of underground lines with flags, paint or both.

Contacting Miss Dig can help prevent striking underground utilities which can lead to serious injury, repair costs, fines and inconvenient service interruptions.

Every digging project, no matter how large or small, warrants contacting Miss Dig. Miss Dig is not only for contractors using power digging equipment. Installing a mailbox, new deck, or planting a tree or garden are all good examples of digging projects that should first begin with contacting Miss Dig.

Additional information about Miss Dig is also available by visiting UPPCO’s website at: www.uppco.com.
