NAMI Program Promotes Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental illness is a difficult condition to talk about, making it tougher for those suffering from it to seek help.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Health invites the public to come see a film today the Portage Lake District Library.

Catherine Paavola is with NAMI and she says it’s important for people to face what mental illnesses really are.

NAMI will present selections from Out of the Shadows, a powerful PBS documentary that covers major depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, post-partum depression and other mental illnesses.

The program begins Tuesday at noon so they invite you to bring a lunch and join the discussion and question and answer period following the film.
