MLB
The Detroit Tigers broke out to an early lead, and pounded the Tampa Bay Rays 9-4 yesterday. Detroit scored twice in the first inning on an RBI double by J.D. Martinez and a single by Miguel Cabrera. Andrew Romine’s triple drove in a run in the second inning, and the Tigers added two more in the third on a home run by Cabrera and an RBI single by Cameron Maybin. Andrew Zimmermann gave up a two-run homer to Logan Morrison in the second inning, but was still pitching well when he was forced from the game in the sixth inning with a slight groin pull. He’ll be evaluated today. Tim Bekham hit a two-run homer off reliever Drew VerHagen in the top of the seventh to narrow Detroit’s lead to two runs, but the Tigers got one back in the bottom of the inning when Maybin drew a bases-loaded walk. Victor Martinez closed the scoring with a two-run homer in the eighth. Cabrera also had to leave the game after being hit on the knee with a pitch. He’s considered day-to-day.

After the game, the Tigers sent VerHagen down to Toledo, and brought up Buck Farmer.
