It appears there won’t be movement anytime soon on a measure to legalize ticket scalping in Michigan. The Michigan Senate Government Operations Committee on Tuesday took testimony on the proposal, but has opted not to vote on it until members had a chance to look closer at the issue. The measure repeals a 1931 state law that prohibits a person from selling sports or entertainment tickets for a profit without approval from a venue operator. Many say its a person’s right to sell the tickets for a profit. Venue operators say the 1931 law is on the books to protect consumers. Since lawmakers will likely begin their summer break from Lansing by the end of the week, the legislation is likely on hold until later this year, the earliest.
