Aspirus names Hauswirth CEO of Aspirus Keweenaw and Ontonagon; U.P. Regional Executive Team Aligns

Hauswirth, Mike Aspirus CEOLAURIUM – Aspirus Keweenaw and Aspirus Ontonagon hospitals are proud to name Mike Hauswirth Chief Executive Officer. The announcement was made by Aspirus U.P. Regional CEO Chuck Nelson.

Hauswirth is a familiar face to the community and Aspirus, serving as Chief Operating Officer of Aspirus Keweenaw since 2007, and Aspirus Ontonagon since 2011.

“Mike demonstrates continued excellence in his ability to lead our organizations to the highest levels of health care quality and efficiency. He guided multiple programs of quality enhancement, expansion and development,” Nelson said. “Ultimately, Aspirus Keweenaw and Aspirus Ontonagon are much better today because of Mike.”

During his tenure as Chief Operating Officer, Hauswirth has overseen the construction of a brand new primary/specialty care clinic in Houghton; implementation of a state-of-the-art electronic health records system; expansion and renovation of Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital; and the current expansion and renovation of Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital’s Emergency Department.

“As Aspirus continues to grow and serve the communities of the Upper Peninsula, our collaboration across all four hospitals is vital,” Nelson said. “As a region, we’re sharing providers, resources, support staff, and we’re working together toward one common goal – to provide the very best care to the communities we serve.”

In his new CEO position, Hauswirth is part of a U.P. Regional Executive team that is working to enhance collaboration between Aspirus Keweenaw, Aspirus Ontonagon, Aspirus Grand View and Aspirus Iron River hospitals. Regional leadership roles have been aligned to ensure all Aspirus U.P. hospitals move forward in a unified direction. Effective May 1, the new regional executive leadership roles are as follows:

  • Shane Jacques, former Aspirus Keweenaw Chief Financial Officer, is now Aspirus U.P. Regional CFO
  • Grace Tousignant, former Aspirus Keweenaw Chief Nursing Officer, is now Aspirus U.P. Regional CNO
  • Chad Rowe, former Aspirus Keweenaw Director of Human Resources, is now Aspirus U.P. Regional Director of Human Resources
  • Dave Olsson remains Aspirus U.P. Regional Marketing Director
  • Paula Chermside, former Aspirus Grand View Chief Operating Officer, is now Aspirus Grand View Hospital Chief Executive Officer
  • Connie Koutouzos remains Aspirus Iron River Hospital Chief Executive Officer, and now joins the Aspirus U.P. Regional Executive Team

The Aspirus U.P. Regional Executive Team reports directly to Chuck Nelson, who remains in his position as Aspirus U.P. Regional CEO. Nelson adds, “Advancing collaboration as a region and leveraging our resources and strengths allows us to meet the unique needs of the Upper Peninsula. It allows us to work together to deliver the highest-quality care in the most efficient and cost-effective manner to patients close to home.”
