A black bear that mauled a Cadillac-area teen three years ago has been shot and killed.
The state Department of Natural Resources says a person, who wants to remain anonymous, went to help their dog who was attacked by a bear last month.
The bear ran off at first, but then returned and came toward the resident.
The DNR says the killing of the bear was self defense and justifiable.
Samples taken from the 2013 attack matched the dead bear’s DNA.
Natural Resources workers have been trying to catch the bear since it attacked Abby Wetherell in the same area.
The then-12-year old needed 100 stitches to close the claw marks after she was attacked while jogging.
