9-Year-Old Girl Hit By Car In Hurontown

A child is recovering after being hit by a car in Hurontown Wednesday afternoon.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened shortly before 4:00pm on Main Street near the Hurontown Fire Department and Horatio Street.

A 9-year-old girl and her brother were waiting for traffic to clear so they could cross the road.

Authorities say the girl thought traffic was clear and tried to run across the road when she was struck by a vehicle heading north on Main Street.

The driver, a Pelkie woman, reportedly tried to avoid hitting the child but was unable to.

The child suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to U.P. Health Systems—Portage for treatment.
