Finnish Theme Committee Program to Feature Finnish Teachers

HANCOCK — Two education students from Finland will share anecdotes about their experience in Finlandia University’s “Hei Suomi” program prior to the Finnish Theme Committee’s regular meeting May 5.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Finnish American Heritage Center, Eetu Ahola and Kaisa-Maria Poikela of Rovaniemi, Finland — who are student teachers at South Range Elementary School — will discuss Hei Suomi and how it benefits both students and teachers. They will offer insight about Finland’s education system and how it’s become the envy of the world, and will take questions as well.

The presentation will be followed by the Finnish Theme Committee’s regular monthly meeting, which anyone interested is welcome to attend. The committee is already planning its signature event, Heikinpäivä, for 2017, and is actively engaged in several other cultural activities for the coming year, including a Midsummer celebration set for June.
