Public Warned About Salmonella From Little Chickens or Ducklings

A warning from the state health department regarding Salmonella and little chickens or ducklings.

The state’s Chief Medical Executive, Dr. Eden Wells, says since March, there have been 20 cases of Salmonella infections and the number could go higher.

Six people ranging in age from one-to-70 years old have been hospitalized.

Doctors say while raising baby chicks and having fresh eggs can be fun, owners should be aware that chickens and other birds can carry germs.

Salmonella causes vomiting, cramps, fever and diarrhea and can be deadly if not treated properly.

Washing hands is the best way to protect yourself from an infection.
