State lawmakers in Lansing adjourned for the week yesterday without fully completing the state budget for next year. However, significant progress toward that end has been made. First of all, the Governor, the Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader have reached agreement on an overall budget target. The’ve agreed that the General Fund appropriation for next year will be 10.1 billion dollars. In the meantime on Thursday, lawmakers signed off on a conference report for higher education funding which includes a 5.9% increase for university operation and the tuition Grant program.
