Guts Legend Passes – Wednesday Sports Wrap

MLB: Tigers Fall in Ninth
The Blue Jays scored five runs off Joe Nathan in the ninth inning… and beat the Tigers 5-3 Tuesday night. The game was scoreless to that point. Detroit got seven shutout innings from Anibal Sanchez… bu Toronto’s Drew Hutchinson matched him pitch for pitch. The Tigers’ only scoring came on a three-run homer by J.D. Martinez in the bottom of the ninth… a comeback attempt that fell short. Nathan has given up 16 runs over 21 innings this season… and received some boos from the crowd last night. Detroit has lost 11 of their last 15 games.

The Tigers continue that home set against the Blue Jays tonight. Rick Porcello will face R.A. Dickey. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400, WCCY.

Brewers Lose to Twins
Yovani Gallardo gave up home runs to Josh Willingham and Brian Dozier, as the Brewers fell to the Twins 6-4. Gallardo struggled through five innings, and was charged with all five Minnesota runs.

The Brewers and Twins play again tonight, but the scene shifts to Minnesota. Marco Estrada will start against Ricky Nolasco.

– At Miller Memorial Field in Laurium, Bucko’s/Labatts meets Auto Value at 6:15, and then takes on Coca Cola/Miller’s Recreation at 7:30.
– At Hurontown, 906/Pilgrim River Steakhouse faces Nutini’s at 6:15. The Goal Post plays Osmose at 7:30.
– At the Hancock Driving Park, North Ponte Trucking plays Post 90/Lakes Lounge at 6:15. Erickson Crowley Peterson meets The Marley Bar at 7:30.

In Copper Country Twilight League baseball Tuesday night…
– At the Hancock Driving Park, Mosquito Inn shaded Pat’s Foods 1-0. Jordan Janowiak pitched seven shutout innings for Toivola. Lee Naugle struck out 13 while going the distance for Pat’s.
– At the Wolverine Field, Wolverine-Orbit slipped past BlueSky Health 2-1.

Bower Intro’d As Pistons’ GM
Jeff Bower was officially introduced as the new general manager of the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday. Bower will run the business side of the team, while Stan Van Gundy runs the basketball side. Bower is best-known for his work with the New Orleans Hornets… where he drafted stars such as Baron Davis, Chris Paul and David West.

Guts Legend Passes
A Guts Frisbee legend has died. Craig “Buck” Buchanan was an original member of the Redford Ringrays, the Cupola Bandits, and the Queen City Flyers. He played for the Ambassadors of Burnt Toast and Runny Eggs team that won the International Frisbee Tournament in 1995. Buck was a founding member of the Guts Players Association, and served as director of several major tournaments. He was also instrumental in the development of several disc golf courses in the Marquette area. Buck Buchanan was 62.
