Copper Country United Way Raises Over $93,000

United Way LogoHoughton (April 4, 2016)  – The Copper Country United Way announced today that it raised $93,758 in its annual community campaign this year. The money raised will be used locally to support their partner agencies which serve thousands of Copper Country residents each year.

“We all have a stake in creating a healthy, prosperous community, “ said Lori Weir, Copper Country United Way Treasurer.  “It’s heartwarming to know we can count on our community.  Every dollar makes a difference, and we want to thank everyone who contributed to this year’s campaign: the schools, universities, hospitals, businesses, and individuals.  Together we can ensure that more children succeed in school, more families get emergency assistance when they need it, and more services are available to those in need.”

The Copper Country United Way also wanted to thank the local businesses who generously took part in the organization’s 2nd annual “Dine and Donate” campaign:  Cyberia Café, Michigan House, Shelden Grille, Culver’s, Loading Zone, Café Rosetta, and Suomi Restaurant.

“We are so lucky to have the support of so many local businesses,” said Weir.  “The Hancock National Honor Society even held a bake sale with proceeds coming to United Way.  It is really wonderful to have this extensive support.”

Although the next campaign doesn’t start until September, the Copper Country United Way is seeking individuals to get involved by becoming members of the Board of Directors.  “We need more than money to be able to do what our local United Way does.  We need people to volunteer their time,” she said.  “The commitment isn’t great, but it is very rewarding to see the impact we have within our local communities.  And this year we have big things planned.  Now is the perfect time to come on board!”
