House Fire in Tamarack City

A large fire engulfed a house in Tamarack City this afternoon. The Tamarack City Volunteer Fire Department got the call from a neighbor just after 3 p.m. to a house on the corner of 2nd Street and Spruce Street just off of M-26. Nobody was in the house at the time. According to one of the homeowners who spoke briefly to Tamarack City Fire Chief Steve Klein, her boyfriend was in the garage and when he looked back, the house was on fire. He tried to run back in to save the dogs but could only rescue one. He was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Lake Linden and Hubbell Fire Departments assisted on the scene. The cause of the fire is not yet known. The Red Cross and the Pigs-N-Heat Fire Relief Fund are offering their help and support.
