A measure introduced in the Michigan House before lawmakers left for a two week spring break would require daycare centers to implement safe sleep policies for babies under the age of one and provide a copy of the policy to parents.
State Representative Andy Schor is sponsoring the bill and says having such a policy is currently a rule that should be solidified into state law.
He’s worried, because it’s only a rule, someone could challenge it in court.
Standard safe sleep practices for babies include laying them on their back and not having heavy blankets or padded bumpers in the crib with them.
Lawmakers are currently on spring break so the earliest the measure could be taken up in a House committee is the week of April 12th.
