Michigan Democrats are urging Governor Rick Snyder to condemn policies throughout the country that they say discriminate against gay and transgender people.
The call comes in the wake of North Carolina enacting a law that, among other things, requires LGBT citizens to use public restrooms that correspond with the gender on their birth certificates.
Michigan Democratic Party Chair Brandon Dillon says North Carolina chose hate over tolerance by targeting their LGBT citizens without cause or provocation.
He says Governor Snyder should make it clear that Michigan doesn’t tolerate discrimination or do business with those that do.
Dillon says Snyder should follow the lead of governors in other states and ban all non-essential state travel to the state of North Carolina.
