Governor Not Ready to Blame Emergency Manager Law for Flint Water Crisis

A day after a governor appointed task force released a scathing report on the emergency manager law and its role in causing the Flint water crisis, Governor Rick Snyder is still not willing to condemn the law.

The report claims the EM law contributed to the high lead levels in Flint’s water by removing governmental checks and balances.

But Snyder says he’s not sure the task force report recognizes changes in the current EM law that includes consent agreements and ways that residents can appeal decisions.

The EM law was updated in 2012 after the 2011 law was repealed by voter referendum.

The governor says he’s willing to look at the task force’s recommended changes and discuss them with legislative leaders.

Flint’s lead problems began after switching its water source to the Flint River.

That decision was made while the city was under emergency management.
