Nurses March on Lansing Wednesday

Nurses in Michigan, led by the Michigan Nurses Association labor organization, will march on the state Capitol Wednesday.

They’re pushing for restrictions on things like the number of hours nurses have to work, as well as nurse-patient ratios.

Dawn Kettinger of the MNA says it’s a safety issue for patients.

While some have tied such proposals to an increasing cost of health care, Kettinger says the longer term advantage is better safety and efficiency in hospitals.

She also says better patient ratios can help avoid burnout and job dissatisfaction among workers and there’s a link between fewer registered nurses and danger to patients.
