Governor Rick Snyder is reacting to questions about the newly released batch of executive emails concerning the Flint water crisis.
The emails show two of Snyder’s top aides had concerns about the water quality in Flint as early as October 2014.
Snyder’s environmental policy advisor, Valerie Brader and former chief legal counsel Mike Gadola had both privately advocated for switching Flint’s water source back to the Detroit system, but neither expressed their concerns to the governor.
Snyder says the two had gone out and asked the tough questions, but they were told the water was safe.
He says his administration didn’t have confirmation of the lead problem until October 2015 when the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the Department of Health and Human Services acknowledge the findings of third parties.
Snyder says there were red flags, but the dots were not connected the way he wishes they would have.
