Michigan has its first confirmed case of Zika virus.
The Ingham County Health Department says a 61-year-old woman contracted Zika virus while traveling to Barbados.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says the woman, who is not pregnant, began experiencing symptoms consistent with Zika after returning to Michigan earlier this month.
The MDHHS did not identify the woman or where she lives in Ingham County.
Zika has been linked to birth defects in children born to woman who contract the virus while pregnant.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there have been 82 cases of Zika in the U.S.
All are travel associated. No cases have been acquired locally.
