Markkanen Appointed To Hancock City Council

A 5 year recreation plan was approved at Wednesday night’s Hancock City Council meeting.

The plan was developed by the recreation committee with the help of WUPPDR, the Western Upper Peninsula Planning & Development Region.

The plan covers recreation structure for the city through the year 2020.

This includes the city’s recreation goals and needs as well as an improvement plan.

The full plan is available on the City of Hancock’s website.

The city council appointed a new member at the recent meeting. Greg Markkanen will fill the Ward II seat.

The seat was previously held by Kevin Hodur, who resigned in December.

Markkanen is a local history teacher and says he likes to be involved in the community.

The council approved his appointment unanimously.

Next month’s meeting of the Hancock City Council is scheduled for March 16th.
