Over 200 Companies Attend MTU Spring Career Fair

Over 200 companies are now hiring and they are looking for the best possible candidates.

To find those candidates, recruiters came to the Spring MTU Spring Career Fair 2016Career Fair, held annually at Michigan Tech.

Competition is tough, not only between the students…but for the companies who want to lure high quality talent.

But it takes more than a degree to make a good employee.

Staff Engineer and Tech Alumnus Matt Barens works for Kohler and he says it takes more than a degree to make a good employee. “Anyone can go and get that degree. Everyone behind me has one of, let’s say, 20 degrees, but it’s really what are they interested in, what’s going to bring them to our area, what’s going to bring them to our company, and what’s going to keep them interested long term. We’re not looking for someone for the next two to three years, we’re looking for a lifetime employee.”

For the students, it all starts with a firm hand shake and making eye contact.

With only three to five minutes with the recruiter, you have to make it count.

Chemical Engineering Major Dylaina Fiebing said, “You want to make sure that you concisely and non-robotically talk about any previous experience or projects that you have, any involvement that you have, and then hopefully something that they’ll remember you by.”

Opportunities presented at this year’s Spring Career Fair include co-ops, internships and more than 200 full time positions and is one of the largest ever at Michigan Tech.
