$30 Million Flint Supplemental Up In Committee This Week

A Michigan House committee is due to take up an emergency funding plan to help with Flint’s water crisis this week.

The measure would provide $30 million to refund residents for water they paid for but couldn’t use because it is contaminated with lead.

State Representative Sheldon Neeley, a Flint Democrat, says the state should add more money to the pot to pay back Flint residents and should move quicker on replacing lead pipes in the city.

The chairman of the committee weighing the supplemental budget bill says no money will be added to the bill.

However State Representative Al Pscholka says there will likely be a few safeguards built in to ensure the money goes where it is supposed to go.

The measure passed the Michigan Senate two weeks ago.
