Woman Killed In Snowmobile Accident In Keweenaw County

One woman is dead after an accident involving multiple snowmobiles late Sunday morning.

Deputies from the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office say they responded to the incident shortly before noon on Trail #3 almost a mile south of US-41 in Phoenix.

The crash resulted in the death of 46-year-old Denise Hesse of Illinois. Another male driver was hurt in the crash.

He was transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance for treatment of his injuries.

Investigation into the crash continues. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Allouez Township medical first responders, Ahmeek Village Fire and Rescue, the Michigan DNR, Mercy Ambulance, and Keweenaw Trails services.
