Some members of Michigan’s congressional delegation are pushing the U.S. Senate and U.S. House to get behind legislation to provide up to $400 million to replace the lead pipes in Flint.
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow says the state would have to come to the table with $400 of its own first.
The legislation will also create a Center of Excellence on Lead Exposure to help people impacted by the city’s water crisis.
It would also allow the Environmental Protection Agency to sound the alarm about high lead levels in a cities drinking water if a state fails to do so.
A trio of lawmakers are behind the legislation, which will be introduced next week.
Joining Stabenow in backing the bill are U.S. Senator Gary Peters and Congressman Dan Kildee.
